App

FAQ

Why does a hardware app need location permission?

iOS requires it: an app must hold location authorization before it may read the name and BSSID of the connected Wi-Fi network. This is a platform rule, not a choice this app made. Whence never obtains your coordinates, never stores them, never uploads them. See the privacy policy.

Why can't it read battery health?

iOS does not expose battery health, cycle count, or design capacity to third-party apps. This is not "not implemented yet" — it is not possible. Desktop tools can read it only over USB through an entirely different diagnostic channel that apps cannot reach.

The actual suppliers of the display and battery are likewise unreadable. The app's supply-chain section shows only the publicly reported range for that model, marked as inferred and visually de-emphasized. Any app claiming to detect this directly on an iPhone is not telling you the truth.

Why are the access point and gateway shown as different devices?

This usually isn't an error — it's useful information. It means you're on a mesh network, a controller-plus-thin-AP deployment, a wireless repeater, or a modem plus your own router. Expand the evidence chain to see every piece of reasoning.

Why is the manufacturer unknown?

If the BSSID is a locally administered address — common for guest networks, phone hotspots, and mesh nodes — it isn't in the IEEE registry at all, so a lookup cannot succeed. The app tells you that's what happened rather than inventing a manufacturer.

Does the app scan my local network?

No. To identify the router model it contacts only the gateway address, with a single unauthenticated HTTP request, reading response headers and the page title. It never logs in, never sends credentials, never scans ports. At most 5 requests, finished within 6 seconds.

Is any data uploaded?

No. The app makes no external network requests. History is stored only on your device, unreadable while locked, and can be cleared at any time from Settings.
